I’d meant to write and give an update, but I’ve been curriculum-ing and meeting my students. Most of my creative and phantasmal knock-your-socks talent has been reserved for them, a build-up of who I am, how I see, what I believe in for these first Introductory Days. Now we’re off and I’ve ideas to ground into fine powder and set into holes in the earth, to watch them magically grow. One of them is a Substack for kids and their parents.
I’ve now created Connecting Pleiades.
In the few days I’ve known my students, I can see the gaps created because of the pandemic. My own middle school students were in 2nd grade when the lockdowns happened & distance-learning started, and now they’re mine. They’re hungry for new knowledge, histrocity and connections to things and ideas old and new. For several months out of a year, I’ll be their Guide. Connecting Pleiades will be our little portal.
My first ideas are to: - speak intelligibly to little children about nature, science, technology, engineering, weaving history and culture and personality whenever possible - provide links and resources for further reading, detailing how each resource is useful, along with any relevant explanations to demonstrate curious & creative thinking - model my own child-like wonderings about everything, demonstrate journey of thought in young, growing minds. - write to parents, providing the how and why of child-like thought. my hope is to freshen the springs that feed the child within. :)
I don’t know a whole lot, and that’s okay. To me, therein lies the appeal to wonder, wander, explore, discover, examine, turn over ideas with me..
Now, I think a lot and say a lot. Success depends on establishing a writing habit and keeping content (output) consistent. All I’ve needed is an audience, a Dear Reader. With my little ones, I have that.
How wonderful.
